Tweet! Tweet! #BecauseKids

It’s the beginning of a new school year, and I’m loving all the great energy and inspiration that is coming from my district’s new hires. I went to the new teacher orientation meeting to help Tina, our amazing New Teacher Mentor/Liaison for the district. She had me lead a short session on educational technology information at our district. The new teachers were incredible: so energetic, enthusiastic, and… ready to Tweet!

Mary Maddux, our Asst. Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, had me schedule a Twitter session with her last month. She and I thought it would be great to use the hashtag #BecauseKids – we are trying to get the word out that our district is student-centered. We have amazing programs for students (robotics and engineering is just one), and our teachers at all five of our sites are truly dedicated to the students and putting them first. So #BecauseKids was born, and we tweet it with our #LAFSD district hashtag.

After the new teacher meeting, I met with the first grade team at one of our sites. They not only started tweeting, but they also are using Remind to keep parents in the loop.  Our literacy coaches are getting on Twitter too!

On Friday, Tina took a pic of me at the newly decorated¬†district curriculum and conference center. It is full of polka dots – my favorite! I posed for the pic and posted it on Twitter, saying that the first person from #LAFSD that knew where the pic was taken would win a prize… and sure enough, we had a winner! And now, Tina has another idea… I can’t wait to find out what it will be.

The fact that we’re producing good news and reports of teachers doing great things for kids via Twitter is just the beginning. I hope you’ll look for our #BecauseKids and #LAFSD hashtags on Twitter. We are excited to share the amazing things happening in our schools… Because Kids!
